yes, i am looking forward to the turkey and the stuffing and the cranberry sauce and my entire family bustling around munching on leftovers until 11pm.
but, why is it that we can only be outwardly thankful on the fourth thursday of november? beats me.
so yesterday i started a thankful journal. a simple list of all of the things i realize i’m thankful for. things i’m thankful for either for happening, for not happening, for having or for not having. people i’m thankful for knowing. people i’m thankful for being a part of my life. smells, sights and sounds i am thankful for being able to experience. i’m learning to give thanks. FOR EVERYTHING.
and here’s one reason why:
[be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. if you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.] -oprah winfrey
so what do you think, be thankful with me?
i WILL make a trip to seattle in the next year. the pacific northwest has always been on my radar. who’s coming with? sounds like quite an interesting place.
i LOVE spanish. most of you know that. most of you have either had a conversation with me in Spanish or have been the lucky recipient of my spanish ramblings. either way, you know i love it.
[doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life] -wayne dyer
i’m working on this. i spent last weekend at the nature place and after climbing to the top of a telephone pole, i made a vow to stop making excuses for doing things i don’t love in exchange of things i do love. not only have I vocalized this to friends, this week ive started to really live this. and it is tough, don’t get me wrong. but it’s really really important.
the point of that sappy life coaching session comes down to this. number one: i was taking a walk (something i love) around campus with two of my roommates (two people i love) on tuesday night , checking out the setup and chaos and liveliness buzzing through campus in anticipation for the big debate. we stumbled upon a newscaster filming about the debate. IN SPANISH. (something i love) so being my sometimes overwhelmingly outgoing self, i asked where they were from and which station they were with. univisión. a man originally from argentina (somewhere i love), a woman originally from chile. after a couple moments of chatting, they asked if they could ask me a couple questions on camera. uhhhh, sure why not i replied. and then all of the sudden, it was real. I was being interviewed by Univisión. i could potentially be broadcast across the nation, across the world perhaps IN SPANISH. and then i was the happiest person in the world. all because i was doing something i love.
here’s the interview, if you’re interested. http://noticias.univision.com/noticiero-univision/videos/video/2012-10-03/expectativas-primer-debate-entre-obama-mitt-romney
keep me accountable for my goal, please. and join me- do things you love. stop making excuses. we’ll all be much better off if we live life loving.
